The game, originally invented in South America, belongs to the Rummy family and is played with a standard deck of cards. Compete against the computer in 1v1 rounds or together with an AI partner in 2v2 and collect points by forming Canastas - these are sets of seven cards with the same number.
Make sure to combine your cards skillfully and use the jokers and twos effectively! The first player to reach 5000 points, even over several rounds, wins the game.
How to play:
1. Card distribution: Each player receives 15 cards. The rest of the cards form the deck, from which you can draw two cards each round.
2. Collecting and discarding cards:
On your turn, you either draw two cards from the deck or from the discard pile.
Collect cards with the same number and place them in so-called “melds”.
A meld must consist of at least three cards of the same number, regardless of suit. If you want to form a Canasta, you need at least seven cards with the same number.
Note that you must achieve a minimum score with your melds in the first round, otherwise you cannot discard them.
3. Jokers, twos, and black and red threes:
Jokers and twos can be used as replacement cards for any other card and help you to form larger melds.
The black three is used as a stop or blocking card. If you place it on the discard pile, you prevent your opponent from drawing cards from it. In addition, a meld of three black threes can only be played at the end of a round.
A red three is automatically discarded and scores you an additional 100 points.
4. Forming a canasta: A canasta is a set of seven cards with the same number. You can use jokers and twos for this, but you get fewer points for a mixed canasta
5. Aim of the game: The first player to get rid of all their cards and to have formed at least one canasta during the game ends the round. The player with the most points wins.
The cards are worth the following points:
Normal cards with the numbers 2-7 and black 3s: 5 points
Normal cards from 8 to king: 10 points
Red threes: 100 points (200 points for 4 or more)
Aces and twos: 20 points
Jokers: 50 points
Canasta: A mixed canasta scores 300 points, a pure canasta 500 points.
Deductions: Each card you have left is deducted, so try to get rid of your cards quickly!
Bonus: The first player to run out of cards scores an additional 100 points.
